I am allergic to epinephrine
I am allergic to cortisone
ROTFLOL!!!
Sorry, I couldn’t help it. I have low adrenal function, so I AM SENSITIVE to adrenaline. If my dentist uses the usual mix of caine + epi, I never go fully numb AND the partial anesthesia lasts up to 12 hours. If they remember to leave out the epi, then my jaw “disappears” for an hour or two. Needless to say, I always try to remind her!
And the one about benadryl also brought a grin. The original diphenhydramine (spelling?) formula would knock me out for 18 hours straight, and I’d wake up tired. As a form of shorthand, many DOCTORS described my overreaction to the sedative effect as an “allergy to antihistamines”. I’m guessing that the current formula of benadryl has eliminated this side effect, right?
