The sleep study/CPAP deal is the biggest racket going. Why even bother with the sleep lab when everybody gets CPAP anyway ?
Sometimes the just snore loudly and don’t obstruct or they have RLS that affects them. I had a type one diabetic that had crummy A1C’s who got up at nite to eat. She wasn’t obese but the sugars, even while on a pump, were haywire. She conceded to feeling tired and had “bad” RLS that got her up at night to eat ’cause she didn’t have anything else to do. Actually she said she kicked a lot.
Didn’t want to do a sleep study but ropinirole was a miracle cure with a good nite’s rest and plummeting A1C’s. I’ve had people who I swore had apnea but the study was negative.
The latest “requirement” some insurers are foisting is home sleep studies that are read by the pulmonologist and if positive they get an auto CPAP device. We’ll see how that goes. Usually I’ve seen the auto device gets the pressure so high if they get up to go potty, they can’t stand to wear it when they get back to bed.
