I Love Science by Pat Conrad MD

Medicine can be cool. It can be useful, and even fun. “Born with an absent or underdeveloped vagina, women suffering Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome often have difficulty experiencing a normal sex life, can fail to menstruate and sometimes cannot reproduce naturally.”

But now, researchers from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center have found a way to normalize life for women with severe cases of MRKH: Using patients’ own cells, they have successfully grown vaginas in a laboratory setting and implanted them into four women.

Yes that is cool science, and yes, it will aid those women so afflicted to lead, one hopes, happier lives with more fulfilling intimacy. (and, gratuitous reference, it also reminds me of Katya, the KGB cyborg on “Archer.”)

And yes, it brings enough jokes to mind to get me permanently banned from this site. Were any of the lab techs guys, and if so, did they try to steal samples? Were any notable politicians or the AAFP solicited as donors. Do any of the grant proposals use the word “flavored”?

To my female colleagues here, there are pecker pumps, pills, and implants stories galore, all funny, so please understand, I’m just trying to catch up.
