Quote of the Week: Evel Knievel
“If you don’t know about pain and trouble, you’re in sad shape. They make you appreciate life.”
Evel Knievel
(Editor’s Note: Best kid’s toy I ever had. Also, I busted my head open once trying to just over a telephone pole on the ground. No ramp. Just straight into it with my bike.)
I had one too. I had the “camper” truck that went along with it as well. Loved that toy. As a 12 year old that didn’t know much about womanizing, alcoholism, and hepatitis, he was my hero and I watched all of his jumps intently and knew all sorts of trivia about him.
Evel Knievel’s jumps were a spectacle that I remember vividly from my childhood. I had a toy with a Evel Knievel doll (a little smaller than a GI Joe) and a little motorcycle it would sit on. You had this thing the motorcycle would connect to and a handle that you would crank to rev up the rear wheel on the motorcycle to insane rpm, then you would release the motorcycle and send Evel and his bike on its suicide run down the driveway to try to jump the culvert or down the basement stairs or jumping a little inferno in the back yard.
No lie, I would play with it today if I had one
Tricycle? Bicycle? Murdercycle? Graveyard ponies I tell you. I can think of
sumptin’ better to stick between my legs and I’ll leave it at that. ;-0
“No lie, I would play with it today if I had one”
I missed that. You break yours, lose it or sell it off? 😉
(Sorry Doug you set yourself up for this!)
