Ridiculous Study of the Week: Diabetes Risk
Well, they have gone and done it. Researchers have discovered that “severe childhood obesity is tied to higher type 2 diabetes risk”. I know, right? You’re shocked. As one author states:
“The rising incidence of diabetes in young adults is related to the epidemic of childhood obesity and is largely driven by the increase in severe degrees of obesity in youth,” Sinha said. “A rise in youth-onset diabetes is likely to lead to development of late-stage complications of diabetes and premature mortality.”

The bigger question, however, has not been asked of this scientist. If I was able to ask this crack researcher one thing it would be, “Why the f%ck are we doing the same studies over and over again? Of course obesity is related to diabetes!”
And then I would eat a whoopee pie as he looked at me in disgust.
Nothing is going to change until people are held accountable for their lousy habits. Period!
The MD’s in cheap suits (Doug mentions) that have nothing to do with treating people are fast to
blame us in the trenches for not “educating” the masses on their bad habits. I have news for them, I can print off 150 pages of self help information and they can go home and use it to start their
wood stove. The vast majority, don’t care.
This is the worst time in history to consider a career in primary care! Get to be a whipping boy for
everyone’s non-compliance.
Going to talk to the retirement planner. Glad 65 is getting on the horizon and I can bail out. Too bad as my experience goes with me along with my satisfaction of life increasing immensely.
Feel sorrow for the younger practitioners who are left behind to deal with this stupid philosophy.
Diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, heart disease, sleep apnea. We’re going to have a very unhealthy society. And, not be able to pay for it.
