Why is there even a debate on vaccines? Answer: Blame the lawyers! When you don’t get your children vaccinated, you put your children at risk and you destroy herd immunity, putting others at risk. However, an original article in our local newspaper reminded me why parents may be having trouble getting vaccines: The consent forms.
Before we vaccinate, we hand the parents consent forms to sign. The forms are wordy, alarming and confusing. The fact you need to sign anything at all causes alarm.
The cautious parent stops and exclaims: “Hey! What? What is this? This looks like the thing I had to sign before I got major surgery last year!”
Not vaccinating is far more dangerous, but we donât give a consent form for that option.
Why? Lawyers.
The concerned parent says: “Can we take a rain check? Let me go check the internet first.”
Yes! That will fix it! Just check the amazing internet, where you can believe everything you read.
Dang lawyers, they ruin everything!
