This is eerily true….
The day after our EMR went “live”, I walked into our trauma bay to see a patient. I was so struck by what I saw, I snapped a quick photo and sent it to our Chief Quality Officer (MD)…. It Was your comic x 5….
5 trauma bays in a row along one wall, a long counter on the opposite wall….
10 computers (2 per bay). 3 patients…. All staff facing computers, no one looking at the patients……
That was 2 years ago. The situation has improved…. The counter moved and you now sit facing patients, although the computer monitors are in the way.
And we wonder why patients feel disenfranchised….
