It is so true. I once had a morbidly obese patient, 38 years old, who wanted me to fill out a form for her to get a handicapped placard for her car so she wouldn’t have to walk so far. She said her knees hurt and she felt short of breath. I told her absolutely not, what she needed to do was park as far away as possible to get some exercise. I tried explaining to her that if she exercised, stopped eating sweets, etc, she would loose weight and not have these problems. What did I get for my honesty: she decided that she wanted to see the other provider in our office from then on.

Finally, a little honesty and realism from Washington.
