Ouch! I personally do not think there is enough Duff beer to fix this calamity. Family Medicine is a wasteland populated by doctors too busy with patient care to worry about their political needs. They live in the moment of seeing people and fixing their needs, never understanding that their existence is teetering on the head of a pin. With other groups that are politically well organized and well funded looking to expose our soft underbellies. We are dinosaurs….sadly. I am the most pro family doctor I know. (yes, delusional). No medical specialty does a better job serving humanity on a daily basis then we do. PERIOD. If you disagree…please name one. I am saddened and disgusted by the the recent turn our storied profession has taken. How did this happen? It happened through our indifference and apathy. At our hospital employed family practice group we have been meeting monthly and discussing the issues and conflicts with the administration (the hospital employers). I can say without any reservation that this has been successful at restructuring our contracts and gaining a foothold for further discussion/battles. ( Our group is not exceptional..we are very pedestrian). We CANNOT give up…the stakes are too high. We owe it to ourselves and the people we care for. For all you movie buffs..”On my command ..unleash hell”. If you truly care about Family Medicine ( heck, you devoted your life to it), then do something!!! The Spaniard. (strength and honor).

The same sentiment was voiced back in the bad, old Soviet Union days (“They pretend to pay us, we pretend to work”). OMG, do you suppose the U.S. is getting like THEM?

Except we can’t have beer on the way to work.
