The Risk of High Deductible Plans

High-Deductible-Health-Plan-Pros-and-Cons

A New England Journal of Medicine has come to the conclusion that “high deductibles add to consumers’ financial stress and dissuade some patients from getting needed medical care”.  To that I say…..maybe.  You see, when you are paying a house mortgage payment worth of insurance monthly (ex. $1300/month) then you really try not to go see the doctor because the first $6000 is out of your pocket.  There is no reason for these massively costly plans to have these high deductible.  On the flip side, there should be CHEAP plans that would have a high deductible that forces people to shop around.  That would work.  Now some would still choose not to get the medical care they need but that is their freedom of choice.

The ACA let the insurers rule the roost and we are all paying for it.
