Doctor Dragged Off Plane

Okay, we all have heard the screams and seen the video.  The passenger being dragged off happened to be a physician and was being “re-accomodated”, which is totally garbage.  United will get sued and the doctor will make some money.  End of story. That being said, I could not help having some PTSD from this video.  Why?  Let me list the reasons:

  1. There was a time that I would gladly take the offer to be “re-accomodated” so I didn’t have to go to work.
  2. There was a time where I almost needed to be dragged off screaming in order TO GO to work.  Yes, I was was at a point where I easily could visualize myself as that dude screaming and fighting as someone dragged me into an exam room.
  3. There was a time that I felt bloodied and beat up at the end of my day just like this doctor was after security was done with him.  That was a normal occurrence and it was every day.

Thank goodness things have changed….for me.  How many other doctors out there are still screaming and feel beat up every day? This United Airlines video is a metaphor for our lives.  Now, close your eyes, picture your staff telling you that Mrs. Jones with 12 chronic problems is in room 3 and listen to the screaming again.  That screaming is you. Hits home, right?

There was a point made that the Doctor was disciplined in the past for unbridled prescribing
and had his license pulled. Nonetheless, that is no excuse for the way he was treated.
Heard this as a criticism on NPR about a newspaper that printed the doctor’s background
and the commentator contended (rightly so) his background didn’t have any bearing on this
    and that outcome was inexcusable.

I am very happy you experienced an attitude adjustment. Was it with DPC?

As for me, my philosophy has always been, “I would rather be standing next to the (hospital) bed than lying in it.”

Yup. DPC. I am my own boss. I see 8 patients a day on average. 99% of my patients are great.
