Ridiculous Study of the Week: Burnout

The results are in:

Physicians between the ages of 40 and 54 experience a higher rate of burnout than older or younger doctors, according to a recent survey of more than 15,000 physicians who cited administrative tasks and work hours as key drivers of their stress.

I am all for saying the same thing over and over again to a point but now this is getting ridiculous. This study helps no one. Why? Older docs are not burned out because they don’t give a shit anymore and can see the light to retirement (or death). Younger docs are being brainwashed into believing that all doctors should have an administrator boss and metrics are good things. It’s how they are being indoctrinated and hypnotized into the cult of industrialized medicine. And we let this happen but that’s a story for another day.

The middle-age docs are stuck. They have loans. They don’t know how or are too afraid to get out of their present careers. I get it. That was me. The only thing that saved me was DIRECT PRIMARY CARE. And guess what? I have no administrative tasks or work hour issues anymore. Problem solved.

(BTW, the pic above is from the WSJ article. I do not know if that is from a Doctor’s Lounge or not but it sure seems like it. Ironically, that would be a start in fixing this burnout issue. Bring back the f&cking Doctor’s Lounges and keep it ONLY for MDs and DOs).
