Apology for the TIMING of the Bonuses
You may have read in last week’s blog about how this Denver’s hospital was giving out executive bonuses while cutting staff and their pay. Well, there is a new update:
Denver Health Medical Center CEO Robin Wittenstein on Monday apologized to the hospital’s 7,000 employees for the timing of incentive bonuses that were handed out to executives and managers April 10, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. The bonuses came a week after Wittenstein asked front-line staff to cut hours and pay and live on less.
“Being informed of incentive payments now to the executive staff, no matter what the explanation,” wrote Wittenstein, “has clearly been painful and dividing, especially because you did not hear about this from me directly first. For this, I am deeply sorry.”
Wittenstein’s email was sent to hospital staff Monday afternoon.
Did you catch that? She apologized for the TIMING of the incentive bonuses. Trust me, they are getting their bonuses but they are going to wait a few months.
Wow.

Makes me want to support single payer or medicare for all and get rid of these useless administrators that suck money off the top because they are ” the most crucial members of the health care team”. Why? Because they get paid the most. Ours get $1.5 million and he is so good at cutting costs and increasing revenue that they (Bored of Directors) gave him $500,000 bonus because he is so important. MBA school teaches their graduates how to squeeze every last dollar out of a turnip. And of course, if they are successful, … they get a “Bonus” .
How bout she skips the apology and pays the actual workers full salary?
I’ll say it again Wittenstein. You make me want to puke! Sell your “valued employees” down the river while you and your cronies rack up the 6 figure bonuses. I know in meeting with them that you “here them”. I know you “value” them and the incredible work that they do for our patients every day. However, when push comes to shove and the “budget” won’t support paying the workers, you just say “pay the administrators a huge bonus for a job well done!”. By the way, “pay me the largest bonus”! Your timing sucks. Your fellow CEO’s will praise your “best practices bullshit”. Trust me..your employees hate you.

This is teachers week and nurses week. I think it was CBS this am talked about how the ER nurses working in the pandemic are being rewarded with pay cuts due to the costs of providing care.
As if hearing from her would make it taste better, whatever the timing. Funny as hell.
