Antibody Tests for Covid-19 Wrong 50% of The Time? WTF?

This pandemic sucks. I am tired of the inaccuracies. We all are. But I am also tired of people ignoring the businesses that require masks even when the store has a big sign out front. It’s like they think their freedom is on the line and they sacrificed enough. Enough? Staying inside for a couple of months and then having to wear a mask is NOT dropping into Normandy.

But then we get this information:

Antibody tests used to determine if people have been infected in the past with Covid-19 might be wrong up to half the time, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in new guidance posted on its website.

Antibody tests, often called serologic tests, look for evidence of an immune response to infection. “Antibodies in some persons can be detected within the first week of illness onset,” the CDC says.

They are not accurate enough to use to make important policy decisions, the CDC said.”Serologic test results should not be used to make decisions about grouping persons residing in or being admitted to congregate settings, such as schools, dormitories, or correctional facilities,” the CDC says.

This is what happens when we rush to find the right testing, the right guidelines, and soon, the right vaccine. No one is going to trust us in the medical field Add in a pinch of politics to weaponize this medical information and we have thoroughly confused everyone. I am just sad about it all because CV19 is starting to rise again and it may get nasty.
