The Leech King
Please forgive the sketchy grammar and obvious profanity, but…
This shit right here is exactly what I’ve been talking about!! The venomously arrogant Dr Fauci testified to Congress last week and continue his Olympian run of political hackery and obsequious opportunism. After being disastrously allowed to appoint himself Central Scrutinizer for All Human Activity, Fauci assumed responsibility for MLB and the NFL, socializing in bars, sexuality and recommended forms, the economy, and what our “new normal” ought to be. And in so doing, bought into the erroneous mindset of too many med students and new residents, seeing the entirety of human existence through a marvelously narrow, if ostentatiously compassionate lens that allows them to know the “right” answer.
“When Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., asked at a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing if institutional racism was a factor in black communities being affected more than white communities, Fauci plainly said, ‘Yes.’
‘Obviously the African-American community has suffered from racism for a very, very long period of time,’ Fauci testified. ‘And I cannot imagine that that has not contributed to the conditions that they find themselves in, economically and otherwise. So the answer, Congressman, is yes.’”
So this political leach, camouflaged by a medical degree, accepted a political premise whose precise value lies in its inability to be quantified, and gave it further public credence without any data for which he purportedly would base his other epidemiological recommendations.
Right or left, when a politician with a medical degree starts running his mouth beyond his actual knowledge, his expertise is invalidated and we are all the worse for it.
What a refreshing and welcome description of Fauci’s ridiculous opinions, capturing what so many of us have been thinking for quite some time. It has been evident that he is in over his head, having flip-flopped on many important pandemic-related issues and addressed decisions for which he has no special expertise. Despite the false humility, he never hesitates to provide opinions and recommendations not based on data, which wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t have far-reaching negative consequences for our country. Fauci lost credibility with many epidemiologists long ago (I’m one of them) and should have been reined in 2 months ago.
“After being disastrously allowed to appoint himself Central Scrutinizer for All Human Activity, Fauci assumed responsibility for MLB and the NFL, socializing in bars, sexuality and recommended forms, the economy, and what our “new normal” ought to be.”
Oh come on, seriously? He has medical expertise in infectious diseases, and is certainly qualified to opine on public health issues that involve people crowding into spaces without masks and distancing. And he has repeatedly stated that it is not up to him to create policy but only to advise from a medical perspective. Man, some of you right-wingers sound nuts! And you are an MD, and you’re not accepting the medical opinion of one of your own? Good God.
So my disdain for being an agent of fear is partisan?
Enjoy this sample from 4/29/20:
“If you can’t guarantee safety, then unfortunately you’re going to have to bite the bullet and say, ‘We may have to go without this sport for this season. I would love to be able to have all sports back. But as a health official and a physician and a scientist, I have to say, right now, when you look at the country, we’re not ready for that yet.”
What she said. And by the way, the word I think you’re trying to use is spelled leech.
I am mortified, you are exactly right. My sailing lingo usurped my brain. Thanks!
I agree Fauci might have strayed from his area of expertise commenting on racial inequities, but most of us practicing mds have come across data on this for years validating our clinical experience. I imagine he has as well. As an epidemiologist/id expert he is much more qualified to weigh in on this issue than 99.9% of the populace. And unlike most of the politicians he is much more credible, scientifically based amd rational.
Btw Pat are you wearing a mask when you go out?
Absolutely, cheerfully NOT. Those that need to self-quarantine certainly should, and the healthy and productive should live their lives.
BTW I diagnosed a lot of Covid this past week, and not one needed to be hospitalized. I don’t minimize this virus (have also dealt with it in the ICU), but nor do I amplify it, or the fear.
I guess since Fauci’s “expertise is invalidated,” I’ll go back to Trump/Pence for my scientific information and Covid-19 updates. The sheer idiocy of what Pence said on national TV the other day is far more damaging than anything Fauci could ever say—no matter the topic.
I understand that the point is that Dr. Fauci left the medical sphere to take questions on issues for which he has no authority. However, there are some medical organizations, such as the AAP, that have come out and said that racial inequality is actually a public health crisis. So, this socioeconomic issue is actually more relevant to doctors than what appears on the outset. The pandemic has shone a light on this problem and maybe it will be taken more seriously.
These are strong, themselves “venomous” words. Fauci may have stepped outside his expertise when he commented on race and poverty, but he is not wrong in my opinion, which of course, is just an opinion. He certainly does not deserve the negative commentary thrown at him by the writer.
If you have not seen the documentary “13th” you should as it may change your view on the the race issue. The 13th amendment drafted by those who lived in a time when slavery was normal left a big loophole otherwise the economy in the South would have collapsed: “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. It is on netflix but also free to stream on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krfcq5pF8u8
I think you missed the point of this post.
Fauci will be up for Sainthood soon
Stupid
Well said.
