I’m sorry. That cartoon is totally tasteless. See Doug, no cuss words here!

That cartoon really got some depth to it. There are gun owners who I’ll stand next to on the firing line, who don’t worry me a bit. And there’s some fools who aren’t safe with a sharpened pencil. That National Firearm Association doesn’t give a whit about safety, but about sales. A nitwit pays the same for a firearm as a responsible owner. It’s all about the Benjamins.
The cartoonist who drew that sketch clearly has never handled a 1911 or even seen one up close – that’s a silly mashup of a semiauto pistol drawn from half-remembered gangsta videos.
The gun handler is even worse. There’s a hell of a difference between holding a gun, and using it responsibly. Jeff Cooper’s Rules apply to medicine as well.
#1) Every decision you make is locked and loaded. Take your job seriously.
#2) You have responsibility for everyone you treat. What you do can cause life or death.
#3) (addressed in my previous comment).
#4) What is it you are trying to hit? You don’t give antibiotics or steroids to “turn someone around. You are using your skill to silence a dangerous threat to your patient. Giving someone a drug that you don’t understand, is negligence.
…Sure, lots of people get drunk and fiddle around with their guns, and go shooting them off the porch at the neighbor’s fence. Just because there are idiots doesn’t mean we have to put up with them. Some practitioners can sprinkle cure dust on a patient and think they are really impressive. Doesn’t mean they won’t leave a trail of injured or dead patients. This ain’t a game.

Great post! You’re absolutely right! Wish more people were as serious about firearms – and patients – as you are in your comment.

No, you are NOT overreacting.
That isn’t even funny. I have a great sense of humor, but there is a time and place.
Bringing guns into the picture, really?. You’re THAT motivated to practice independently that you want to kill? That’s what guns do. What is wrong with these people?!

Poor gun safety, and when an NP opened her practice here in Sidney,MT. several folks ended up at ER with life threatening problems.. Took about a year to get that almost stopped.
That np is still practicing 5 years later but at a reduced level. May be she has begun to learn.
May be not!
