Author: John Chase, MD

John Chase, MD is a recently retired Orthopaedic Surgeon who, according to his daughter, has “Infinite Capacity for Useless Information”. Between this memory and notes jotted down for the last 5 years of his practice, he started writing. With plenty of time from house arrest from Covid-19, he wrote a book “You What?!” about 35 years of Orthopaedic Surgery and a mostly ignored blog. His role models for writing have been the Placebo Journal and Frank McCourt (author of Angela’s Ashes and ‘Tis) for his ability to tell stories. He attributes his values to growing up in Iowa and his fund of knowledge from receiving his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and Medical degree from the University of Iowa. Orthopaedic Residency at the University of Florida rounded out his academic and surgical preparation for a career in Orthopaedic surgery, focusing on Knee and Ankle problems.
