Dr. Wes Exposes the ABFM As Well
Thank god for Dr. Wes Fisher. He is the man. Please read his blog post about the ABFM and the scam they run. He has nailed the ABIM and now turns his attention to the family medicine homologue. Here is a taste:
For instance, while the public only has access to the ABFM’s tax forms to disclose the financial dealings of the organization, we quickly see that MOC continues to be a windfall for the ABFM. In fact, in 2014 MC-FM fees (the ABFM’s MOC program equivalent) contributed 46.4% ($12,776,905) of their $27,525,430 annual haul from ABFM diplomates. These fees helped support Dr. Puffer’s $803,687 annual compensation and the organizations’ $3,521,629 “donations” made to their “ABFM Foundation” and “Pisacano Leadership Foundation.” (In 2012 and 2013 these “donations” were even larger: $6,147,376 and $7,878,535 respectively). MOC also helped fund the ABFM Executive’s first class and companion air travel and their Directors’ first class air travel and a $1,449,525 retirement package with $435,000 in post-retirement medical benefits. No wonder MOC is such a great deal and needs to continue!
Please read it all. It is amazing. And STOP paying for the MOC! Put them out of business.
And Wes, can you please detail how the AAFP is benefiting off of the ABFM and the MOC so people can pressure them to stop?
I am for life certification with 50 hours a year of CME that I chose to help me in my particular practice of medicine I DO. NOT a damn thing is going to change in this country until people are held accountable for their shitty health behaviors! Primary care is NOT rocket science.
MOC is a money making endeavor that enriches the bureaucracy of the ABFM and the mofo’s
that run it! These boards long ceased to be academic service organizations and simply generate funds for their existence and pay the bastard MD’s who run them more than the members who actually work in the field taking care of people. May God Damn the lot of them to hades.
I could not have said it any better. teh ABFM is just a shakedown for every family physician too afraid to fight back. I agree lifetime certification is what we should have.
Is it wrong to feel homicidal toward these dicks who fuck up my life so they can scam my money?
We need a revolution. The real kind. Where we roust them from their office building, line them up outside on the grass, and shoot them one by one. Right after the insurance company executives and the hospital administrators.
I’m under no illusions about Donald Trump’s competence or sanity, but I’d sure like to see him or someone else screw things up just enough to push things over the edge, so we could have a little “readjustment” of our democracy back to its original values, and purge a few layers of these parasites.
That’s how I see it as well. When I list the things I hate about medicine, the ABFM/AAFP extortion & self-abuse cabal is near the top. It is beyond infuriating paying for the Director’s retirement plan while trying to scrimp for my own. And what none of these sonsabitchin’assbastards can or will ever admit is that the millions extorted from us do not improve our lives or our abilities at all, and their damned MOC only adds toward the growing resentment a lot of us feel toward everything in this job.
Next week I get to spend a couple grand and hours of time in a review course so I can pass my FP boards for the last time. The ONLY reason I am doing this is so I can continue to do IMEs in my state, which is a small part of my practice right now, but could be a post or semi-retirement gig. I would much rather be spending time with my wife on vacation. I am resentful that after almost 30 years of practice, and passing 3 exams already I have to do this yet again.
I agree folks, we need a revolution.
