Is That a Doctor in Your Pocket or Are You Just Happy To See Me?

The WSJ recently published an article which once again predicts how technology will make us live longer and healthier   David Agus MD wrote the piece and he is a professor of medicine and engineering at USC.  Oh, and he is also a co-founder of two personalized medicine companies so you have to take that into account.  I found what he said very interesting.  Individualized medicine with intense monitoring is very intriguing and could be very helpful.  It also could make a person (and the doctors who manage them) crazy with all these possible inputs of information.  Also, I am very suspicious where this information would  go and how it would be used.   Insurance companies would be licking their chops for this stuff. Agus calls this the “End of Illness” which is hors%t but he does makes some good points.  What he forgets is that people are people and most still don’t want to do what needs to be done to take care of themselves.
