Tell Sanjay What You Think
I like a few different doctors who are television personalities. One of them is Sanjay Gupta from CNN. He is a neurosurgeon and so he does not know what it is like to be in the trenches of the healthcare system. That being said, he just wrote a nice piece for the NYT entitled More Treatments, More Mistakes. It is a very good article but I am not sure he sees all the reasoning behind the increased testing, etc. He doesn’t push for tort reform which is a politically charged issue. He also does not mention ANYTHING about the bogus quality movement which makes doctors overtreat to get their patients’ numbers “euboxic” so they may score better grades. He asked for “our” thoughts on his Facebook page and I gave some of them to him. No response yet. I would love if you also could tell him your thoughts as well either on the NYT website or on Facebook. And tell ’em Doug sent you.
what was your comment Dr. Farrago?
Defensive medicine can be somewhat controlled by tort reform but even better, all these new bogus “quality indicators” push for more meds. We physicians are going to be paid depending on our patients’ cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar. Should we give an old lady more meds because her glyco is 7.1 and systolic BP is 141? No. But our grades will suffer and we get penalized. A new stupid and unproven system that is being forced down our throat that will create “more treatment and more mistakes”.
It looks like the facebook page is down now? I just tried to access it and couldnt, but judging from what you’re saying, I’m not surprised LOL
And he leads off with quoting that *$#@(& IOM study from 1999 on medical errors?? That damn study spawned an entire “unnecessary testing” industry” and that’s your lead source? How much maintenance of certification is required to be a CNN talking head?
The only requirement to be on CNN is to be a flaming liberal so no he won’t say anything about tort reform, defensive medicine or bad federal programs…….
