The AMA is Worried About a Horse that Left the Barn 20 Years Ago

The AMA may be more clueless than I thought, which is scary. Here is their recent position statement:

AMA is in favor of CMS’s proposed requirement that payers allow patients to access their health data through application programming interfaces (APIs). However, the association also cautioned that the use of consumer-facing apps could result in patients’ data being shared with third parties, often without a patient’s knowledge.

The insurers are selling all the data they get from their EHRs already! As drone doctors put nonsensical information in the system it is being sold out the back end.

Douglas Farrago MD

Douglas Farrago MD is a full-time practicing family doc in Forest, Va. He started Forest Direct Primary Care where he takes no insurance and bills patients a monthly fee.
