Why Some Lawyers Are Idiots
In the wake of the Aurora, Colorado tragedy, one lawyer has risen to the forefront to show his greed and lunacy. His name is Donald Karpel.
Torrence Brown, Jr., his client, was in the theater when suspected shooter James Eagen Holmes threw gas canisters and open fired into the crowd lost one of his best friends in the shooting. Brown, luckily, escaped unharmed but is claiming extreme trauma and has hired an attorney who is targeting three defendants for negligence: the theater, Holmes’ doctors and Warner Bros., the studio behind the “Dark Knight” trilogy. According to Brown’s lawyer, Donald Karpel, here are the reasons:
- The theatre’s emergency door was neither alarmed or guarded
- Holmes’ (the killer) doctors failed to properly monitor medications he appears to have been on
- Warner Bros. showed violence in the film
Sound ridiculous? This is why lawyers gets a bad rap. I don’t know about the emergency door alarm part in issue number but it sounds lame. As for the the last two, well they won’t fly either. Doctors can only prescribe meds for their patients. We can’t force them to take them. And as for Warner Bros. showing violence in the film……how does that even relate to this situation?
“Somebody has to be responsible for the rampant violence that is shown today,” attorney Donald Karpel said. Yes, that person is James Holmes. Now stop being an idiot and go away.
Hey! He forgot to include the makers of the guns used, the NRA and the GOP representants who keep justifying the sale of assault weapons for recreational purposes.
Given it’s a lawyer involved, I’m sure the motives in the suit involve $$$$$, but the emergency doors should have at least had an alarm if opened, and you would be surprised at how many folks internalize all the violence and hate in movies and video games. When we put bad energy into the universe, we should expect some not-so-good things to happen. And doctors’ horrible prescribing practices? Valium is still given out like candy and it played a role in the Tucson shootings as well. I’m not up on all the drugs this guy was taking yet. I’m sure he was surprised when the good people he shot did not come back to life like they do in the video games.
he is an embarassment to the profession, but typical of many who take a case that should not be brought.
BUT, if I lost my father to this shooter I would wonder about the unalarmed emergency exit door ! and can see some liability for the theatre for it. especially if it was required by building codes.
He should be suing himself. By attending the “violent” movie he was supporting the violent culture.
As a trial lawyer, this guy is an embarassment. The case will be thrown out. The lawyer could not be looking for anything but publicity. Most of these crazy cases that get into the media are pro se, because no honest lawyer would take them.
