If this picture is a fake please tell me and I will take it down. If it is not then I think WE physicians need a non-political discussion on how appropriate this is. We need to discuss whether or not there are psychiatric issues in the children that are causing this. Whether or not there is Munchausen by Proxy by parents. We need to discuss how a young child may not have the mental maturity and abstract thought to make these decisions. We need to understand that viral contagions exist and can cause this upswing in gender confusion/dysphoria. Are there reasons why the transgender youth has doubled in 5 years?
Even Britain is having to deal with this.
NHS England announced it was closing the Tavistock gender-identity clinic last month after an independent report concluded that it was “not a safe or viable long-term option” for gender-confused young people. The report, conducted by the former president of the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health, found that patients were “at considerable risk” from clinicians’ “unquestioning affirmative approach.”
I believe adults can do what they legally want. Be trans. Fine. That is your choice and no judgment. But kids need to be protected until they are mature enough to make life-changing decisions (puberty blockers and surgery). Let’s not repeat the “misinformation” censorship catastrophe of CV19. Have the discussion.
While there is probably no ONE cause of gender identity / body dysphoria problems, there may be multiple causative factors such as all the antibiotics and hormones being placed into the food chain, and or the proliferation of micro plastics in the air, soil and water supplies as well as viral etiologies. Maybe for some kids, it is like copycat crime, only instead of see one do one, it is see one be one thanks to the internet. Easy access to all the fake slush online has made this is easy now. But that cartoon did not make me laugh. And the photo seemed to be a sad commentary on Life in the USA when children get drugged up by parents who are making horrible decisions. I like what KOM said about Munchausen by proxy or maybe we should call it just plain old child abuse.
I’m finding the photo on ifunny and ClownWorld noplace serious, and not on any site (Facebook, Twitter) calling itself “Parents of Transgender Kids”.
I am very skeptical of this.

Doug, I share your views on this matter, but I strongly suspect this photo is fake. Well, a real photo of a child wearing a rainbow mask and face blacked out, sitting in some sort of a clinical setting. Captions are fake.
I cannot find this photo anywhere but “WokeParents Ls” on Twitter. I cannot find a group “Parents of Transgender Kids” on Facebook, with the logo shown.
100% terrifying – and if we speak up about this we could be sanction for “misinformation” it’s a terrifying world ahead of us especially for young children
When will we teach any anthropology to the public? Gender characteristics are almost entirely cultural. People don’t fit, change the culture, not the person.
I’d love to be nonbinary while practicing medicine, and get away from the expectation of unremunerated extra time with patients, or at least be appreciated when I give it. But that doesn’t mean I’m not a woman.
As a trans and lgbt friendly doc I often differ from some points of view. But not this one. This is totally child abuse. 18 is the hard deck for any therapeutic treatments aside from psychotherapy. A 12 year old has no idea what their favorite flavor of ice cream will be when they are 25. How could they possibly know what genitals they would want to interact with – theirs or their partners – when they are 25? They can’t. I even agree with criminalization of trans treatment below age 18, which a few states have done.

If a 90 lb. anorexic/bulimic stares into the mirror and sincerely sees an obese person, we recognize that they have deep emotional problems that have resulted in a delusional state that requires compassionate help – we DON’T encourage them in their denial of objective reality.

I could not agree more with you, Doug! Some years from now there will be a new wave of mental illness among people who “transitioned” with their parents’ help as children and many will want to transition back to their chromosome sex. I’ve said it many times, you can change your shirt but you can’t change your genes.
Whatever happened to “First, do no harm… “?
