Lilly Cares?
The drug is called Mounjaro and it is currently only approved for diabetes. The real news is that the drug is a weight loss sensation. The problem? It costs more than $1000 per month and if you stop it, the weight comes back with a vengeance.
The soulless insurance companies have to enter the equation. Enough people have insurance that will pay outrageous prices for drugs. Not many people are going to pay $1,000 a month. Of course, all a T2DM patient needs to do is eat less…imagine that!
I don’t think many insurance companies are going to go with paying $1k a month for a T2DM drug even if it helps with weight or not. The prior auths will be horrendous for a primary care doc to fill out. Gastric stapling might be more economical depending on the case. $1k a month for life? Depending on age, surgery might be cheaper.
Big Pharma only cares about their bottom line!! Nothing else!!
