Sometimes the Facts Hurt
Sometimes the facts hurt. And that’s the funny thing about facts. They put a damper on bogus narratives. You know the Trojan Horse Nurse Practitioner one that goes “we fill in the coverage gaps in rural areas”. Please read the facts from the image above as Texas fights the NP FPA (full practrice authority) assault on healthcare. Protect patients from this scam. STOP THE TROJAN HORSE!!!
To the extent that nurse practitioners are majority female, well, women do not care to go to a rural area, unless they are from there in the first place, or if she is married and the marriage takes both of them there. Generally that will mean the spouse has employment in that rural area as well.
It’s not that different with foreign nationals. If the rural area is not attractive to a physician from Cleveland, it is not attractive to a physician from Karachi either.
You want physicians, or NP’s in rural areas, then…..well…..pay them (yeah, in your dreams).
Maybe a little more realistic (only a little) is to accept for training, eople from those rural areas in the first place. Probably equally unrealistic, in that it might lead to an “affrmative action” that is politically incorrect.
YES,that is what is necessary.Organize, fight, politic, with facts, Money for campaign contributions. All necessary. OR ONE DAY ,SOONER THAN LATER You WILL FIGHT THE NP’s
so THEY DO NOT SUPERVISE YOU..LOTS OF RN’s, NP’s. VERY WELL ORGANIZED.
AS KURT says he supervised his NP. She did what an NP OR PA-C WAS DESIGNED FOR.
SINCE 1977 IN MY SECOND JOB AS A PA-C I HAD VERY LITTLE SUPERVISION.ON CALL FOR ER 2 WEEKS OUT OF 3, ASSISTED A GENERAL SURGEON, AND A FAMILY PRACTICE MD.
DID ADMITS, HOSPITAL ROUNDS,PATIENTS IN CLINIC AND ER, DISCHARGE SUMMARIES.
ALL SIGN OFF BY MY SUPERVISING PHYSICIANS. I SAW ROUTINE STUFF AND TRAUMA, BURNS, MI’s, CARDIAC ARRESTS,RAN CODES. THAT WAS MY CAREER FOR MUCH OF MY 45 PLUS YEARS OF PRACTICE. NOT MUCH SUPERVISION,LOTS OF WORK.. UNTIL I STARTED LIMITING IT AND JUST DOING URGENT CARE CLINIC, FAMILY PRACTICE,AVOIDED ER WITH A FIRM AGREEMENT THAT ANYTHING I FELT NOT COMFORTABLE WITH GOT REFERRED. BY ME TO MY SUPERVISING PHYSICIAN OR ER..
ALL I WANTED WAS TO DO ROUTINE CARE AND LET MY SUPERVISING PHYSICIAN DO MORE SERIOUS STUFF.. DID NOT HAPPEN CAUSE EVERYTHIMG IS A BUSINESS MODEL AND THE BOTTOM LINE..SO IT GOES. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR BATTLES,YOU WILL NEED THAT AND LOTS OF MONEY FOR THE POLITICS. TALK TO THE POLITICIANS LIKE YOU ARE EXPLAINING THINGS TO A TEEN OR YOUNG ADULT,WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT MEDICINE.
Lots of caps. Says it all. Shouting is not a substitute for substance.
I agree whole heartedly. My N.P. I supervised took care of straight forward problems and would come get me if the issue was getting complex. She would grab me early on rather than later and I never had an issue with her on her judgement on what she felt comfortable to treat. If she had someone with simple hypertension and/or hyperlipidemia she would insist to the patient that they at least see me sometime in the future for a review visit. She would lay the groundwork and it was straight-forward for me to review the situation and make sure things were optimal. Sometimes the patient would be getting more complex and she would tell them that they need to be following with me (the doctor) now.
They’re supposed to be “practice extenders” not to usurp a physician’s realm. I had a good professional experience with my N.P. though she was very smart. Started out as a nurse. Went into being an oncology nurse for 8 years. Got tired of that and got her master’s to be a primary care N.P. She was smart and been around the block a few times before becoming an N.P. I believe in my state they still have to be supervised by an M.D. None of our N.P.’s did hospital work.
Target the idiot legislators who fall for the garbage the AANP hands out!
I realize this may not be your particular area, but if you have information on how we can fight this growing cancer in our nation, please list that information here. I do not live in Texas, so I cannot help in that fight to my knowledge. But if you’re aware of the fight in other states, let us know so we can mount an offensive against this cancer.
