To plagiarize Charles Hugh Smith:” the primary engine of medical economic expansion for the past 40 years, financialization–the commoditization of everything into collateral for debt and leverage which could be packaged, sold and traded”–has come to its point of exhaustion. When the Ponzi scheme is most promising is its next-to-last cycle before failing. Medicine is there. We’re running out of suckers.
To freely steal from Mr. Smith:” Like many other aspects of American life, whatever is modestly successful is ground to dust via crapification and “Calculated Misery” in which the consumer experience is intentionally degraded so consumers are forced to pony up for “premium” or “elite” service–that is, the same mediocre service that was once standard but now requires a hefty fee if you wish to avoid immiseration.” Like COMPETENT healthcare. A 99214 is a code, not a demonstration of quality, no matter if 9/12 elements are written down.
Wow!! What does or can an individual functionally do with all that money other than make even more money? In a country where so many people lack good healthcare due to financial stresses, these salaries for mere middlemen who make profits from medical needs, on the backs of the general population are indeed obscene! One must presume that the bonuses and extra compensation they get are a result of wringing even more money from the general population. Hopefully, they are at least paying their “fair share” of taxes….
Many of us physicians pay a higher fair share than these ceos with losing benefits like college aid, Roth deductibility, paying our own health insurance etc. And these CEOs did not provide any value to society. We need a higher tax bracket for over 10 million for sure.
