Medical Students at PCOM Need Food!
You would think a price tag of a quarter of a million dollars for your medical school education should allow the school to cover some food. But, alas, it’s not to be for their Philadelphia College of Medicine students. No, that money is saved for something else. What could that be? Your guess is as good as mine but these students are begging for donations for their food pantry. Don’t worry kids, it only gets worse from here.
WV COM also just posted about a food bank for their students/residents/fellows. It was on reddit.
Yes and no to the kids having it worse. My daughter is a MS1. Although there is a ton more information now, they have electronics that make up the difference. They each get an iPad at matriculation through which they can view most lectures remotely. It has a split screen so they can take notes, and they can increase/decrease the speed or replay if something doesn’t make sense. It’s really impressive. And, for what it’s worth, I suggested she go into law.
PCOM – is that “Philadelphia College of OSTEOPATHIC Medicine”?
As opposed to “Philadelphia College OF Medicine”?
I assume Philly Osteopathic, but want to be clear. Corporate takeovers and all that, three of my training hospitals no longer exist.
And yes, my med school days, the med school cafeteria, you paid. It was reasonable and filling.
The training hospitals, food was free for house staff IIRC. For me, that’s late 1970’s and early 1980’s.
Dammit when I got old I was suposed to be able to say you young kids have it easy. We walked through the snow uphill both ways and all that. When giants walked the Earth. You kids are spoiled.
No they’re not. I do NOT envy today’s med students. They have it way worse than my day, if I can believe even half o what they tell me.
I graduated from PCOM in 1988. They didn’t pay for meals then either. I just thought that was the way it was. Other med schools pay for meals?
