Professional Appropriation as Exemplified by Mercy Health
When Cari thinks of Doctor’s Day, she thinks of “a celebration of how far we’ve come as providers who keep striving to be better each day. I’m proud of the advances we’ve made in care and the evolution of caring for people. The things we do make a difference in longevity and helping people live.”
That sounds very nice except Cari is NOT a doctor. Cari Wildharber, APRN, is a family nurse practitioner with Mercy Health – Reidland Family Medicine and this is how they are celebrating Doctor’s Day.
This is not to attack Cari but Doctor’s Day is NOT a celebration of “we” or “providers”. It is a celebration of doctors.
This is Professional Appropriation brought to you by the hospitals, the admins, the AAFP, the ACP, the AMA, and every other organization that has let us down.
Love the word “PROVIDER”….so generic, basically commoditizing everything into a provider vs consumer relationship. Plants provide oxygen so that we can consume it. Cattle provide beef so that we can consume it.
“Provider” The first tick of the Doom Machine swallowing the profession. Glad I retired when I was still Doctor.
Nurse Practitioners have their OWN WEEK . November 13.
We need to change ours to Physicians Day
