To be fair, women physicians were and are still- regularly called by their first names….but not the male docs. Of course it was better than being asked when I was going to mop the floor or change a bedpan both of which happened to me. This was in the late 70s. In the early years of my practice one of the surgeons at our hospital threw a chart at me (he missed) because I was sitting at the desk and didn’t know the answer to his question about his patient. His excuse was “I thought you were a nurse.”
