This reminds me of a residency hazing thing. Whenever the neurosurgeons would come in to drill a bur hole to relieve pressure in the usual trauma victim from a bleed they would use a handheld drill usually right in the ICU. And they would get an unsuspecting intern or second year resident who had never seen the procedure to actually do the drilling because it’s actually quite tedious. at some point once the drill breaks through the second layer of the skull the drillbit slips back into the device. You would always see the neurosurgeon eyeing the nurses and they were all about to have a good laugh while the intern truly believed they had just stuck a drillbit in the brain of a patient. Not fun. But we all wanted the drills later because they were only single use and very nice.
