It’s the Processed Food, Dammit!
It gets harder to stomach what I read sometimes. Once again, the CDC is making out salt to be the devil again. They start out in their weekly report like this:
Excess sodium intake can lead to hypertension, the primary risk factor for cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of U.S. deaths
Remember, in July of this year that a “recent report from the CDC reviewed the health benefits of reducing salt and say that, even though Americans consume too much salt, major reductions is no longer considered a substantial health hazard.”
Can they be more confusing? It’s probably not the salt. It’s probably the processed and crappy food that uses tons of salt to make it taste better, and this article even talks a bit about it but then why the headline?
Americans Still Eat Too Much Salt:CDC
I have blogged about his before so read here and here. Is it me? Am I missing something or is the CDC just a bunch of idiots? If it is the processed food then just say it.
“Classic misdirection.”
Doug, Doug, Doug.
They CAN’T say anything bad about the processed, crappy food, because the multi-billion-dollar processed, crappy food lobby would have the Administration suspend them by their gonads in the Capitol rotunda if they did.
There IS no salt lobby, though, so they can safely say anything they want to about salt, and the worst that will happen is that people will buy less salt for their salt shakers, all the while buying more salty processed foods, which will keep the salt companies in business anyway.
It’s an old story: the people need an enemy so that they can be distracted from the important stuff, and in the current political environment, salt is more palatable to them (ha ha, get it?) than saying it’s the fault of the terrorists or the international Jewish conspiracy (which they wouldn’t hesitate to say if it suited their needs).
I love our civil servants. They work so hard to help us.
