Though on the other hand that I’m out of practice, most of these new pricey drugs cost so danged much that the patient’s insurers won’t cover them no matter what. I refused to do prior auths for patients who wanted, “the latest and greatest”, especially if I knew the drug wouldn’t them any good. If it was something that would help them and I knew it, I’d go through all to bull hockey to get it for them. That was very rare though.
Oh, looks like untreated sleep apnea in the above cartoon. I had many who refused CPAP and were like that. Had one patient who couldn’t tolerate CPAP and she felt so bad she got a talking tracheostomy to connect up at night. She wasn’t obese either! Told me it was the best thing she ever did and was quite happy. Didn’t mind the trach at all. Just plugged it when she needed to talk.
