We have enjoyed some good pieces lately here on Authentic Medicine. Our merry hooligans have had important criticisms, rational warnings, and honest, hard-won, sometimes rueful perspectives. The Corporate Practice Of Medicine, the utter lie of scope creep aka Militant NP Envy, the consequences of devaluing physicians, the assaults on primary care, and the corruption of once-trusted authorities have all been dealt with by some actual physicians who are able to write and think independently.
Be assured Dear Reader, I am not hijacking my genuinely esteemed colleagues, suggesting their agreement by mentioning them in the lead. Some of them may well disagree with this piece, and that’s cool. I am using their work to suggest that there may be, from different angles, that there may be a recognition of something seriously wrong with the foundation of this profession and our understanding of our core mission. If I get it wrong, I have no doubt I’ll be corrected immediately.
I think that the raison d’être of medicine is to work in service of The Individual. Not community health, not population health, not the world without borders, not the WHO, not the damnable government and its empowering herd, but the individual patient. Maybe that other stuff can come later, but it can never legitimately threaten the well-being of the individual. We used to know that before we fashionably denuded and perverted the Hippocratic Oath into a zeitgeist affirmation, proclaiming intersectionality as some sort of coerced profession of the approved faith.
The COVID convulsion gave us all a real opportunity to examine this profession and our role in it. If some thought mass masking and forced lockdowns made medical sense then I think their judgment was, charitably, faulty, and I argue that they worked against the individual, causing far more harm than good. But I would never want to silence those opinion. If some thought that using hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin against the virus was foolish, then they had every right to make a rational case. If, however, anyone wanted the government to forcibly restrict physicians from trying what they thought might work, then they can go to hell. If some thought mass vaccination made sense, then they could so argue. But advocating to force others to take the shot or lose their employment, despite their relative risk or immunity status or personal choice, was evil, an attack on the individual, and a betrayal of everything we should be about. “But, but, but people were dying!!” was and is a cowardly rationalization, and the lube for tyrannical rape.
Offended yet? Consider that California passed a law to threaten doctors’ license for spreading “misinformation,” the latest polite term for COVID thought crime, the definition of which can obviously be changed as directed by Pfizer lobbyists. The COVID convulsion subsumed the faltering medical profession in politics; the upside is that it tore the veil hiding our profession’s corruption, demonstrating the perfidy of the entire public health establishment, and how even small time, frontline docs have been clutched in to follow their orders. The mob has demanded that we subordinate our individual medical judgement to the approved narrative. That is the exact, rotten opposite of what we all pledged to do.
So U.S. doctors need not be up on their high horse when we see what the infinitely malleable French are up to. It is contemptible for a people not so recently removed from police state terrors to even consider what their government now envisions, the CRIMINAL persecution of physicians who don’t follow the state-approved COVID positions. These pusillanimous pols are trying to enact a bill that states, “Provocation to abandon or abstain from following therapeutic or prophylactic medical treatmentis punishable by one year of imprisonment and a fine of 15,000 euros, when this abandonment or abstention is presented as beneficial for the health of the persons targeted …” The penalty if “followed by effects” is increased to up to three years imprisonment and a 45,000 Euro fine. The linked article goes on to make the point that the contemptible French are falling early in line with forthcoming WHO initiatives, a “Pandemic Treaty,” pushed by Big Pharma, designed to soak developed nations for billions more in order to spread Big Pharma research, products, and mandates throughout the developing world, enriching this cabal with the dollars of the benighted taxpayers from the signatories. How easily could forcing doctors to say and do what national governments require become having them dance to the WHO tune?
If the armbands bear red crosses instead of swastikas, does that make medical oppression of the individual any less Nazi? Physicians have the moral, ethical, and professional obligation to oppose anything that makes them agents of medical tyranny, the sort of which we had a terrible preview beginning four years ago. I’m not convinced that France ever recovered from Nazi occupation, based on their actions, but we should pay attention. Physicians cannot perform their primary duty, the service of The Individual, and be government enforcers. The fight is here, and not taking sides is not an option.

Sadly, Lister died a lonely and sad old man in an insane asylum. As much as I would love the snacks and arts and crafts, if it came to that I suspect I would prefer to die as an advertising executive or even just a McDonald’s worker.
Many problems were delineated here, and unfortunately I have been part of the problem. I have heard it said that everyone lives in the situation that they are willing to accept. Certainly not ideal, and certainly I should’ve called uncle sooner.
